Karanja Tahsil –

A Confluence of History, Culture, and Administration Karanja Tahsil is a historically and culturally rich administrative division in Washim district. The town of Karanja is revered as the birthplace of Saint Narasimha Saraswati Swami Maharaj and is considered a sacred site that preserves deep religious faith and spiritual heritage. Established during the British era, Karanja Tahsil evolved into a center for revenue collection, judicial administration, and local governance. Notably, India’s first Agricultural Produce Market Committee was founded here in 1886, marking Karanja as a significant hub for trade and commerce. Today, Karanja Tahsil comprises 163 revenue villages and includes 91 Gram Panchayats, with a population of approximately 2.13 lakh. The local economy is primarily agrarian, with major crops including cotton, soybean, and chickpeas. From an administrative perspective, the Tahsil office provides essential government services such as land record management, implementation of welfare schemes, and public service delivery.
