Shirpur Temple

Nestled in the tranquil town of Shirpur in Maharashtra’s Washim district, the Antariksha Parshwanath Jain Temple is a haven of serenity and spiritual energy. This revered temple, dedicated to Lord Parshwanath, the 23rd Tirthankara in Jainism, attracts thousands of pilgrims annually. Known for its fascinating history, architectural beauty, and vibrant spiritual practices, Shirpur Temple offers a unique experience for those seeking both peace and divine blessings.

The History

The history of the Antariksha Parshwanath Jain Temple is steeped in legends and divine interventions, adding to its mystique. According to Jain tradition, the idol of Lord Parshwanath was crafted from a mixture of cow dung and sand by King Khara, a figure linked to the Ramayana. However, the idol’s journey to Shirpur is nothing short of miraculous. It was initially submerged in a well near Ellora, and it remained lost for centuries. The idol was rediscovered when King Shripal of Achalpur, who was battling a severe illness, was cured after drinking water from the well. Guided by divine instructions, the king transported the idol to Shirpur, where it is believed to have floated mid-air, thus marking the spot where the temple was to be built in 1142 CE. This miraculous event turned Shirpur into a major pilgrimage center for Jains and cemented the temple’s spiritual significance.
